The district of Saint-Germain-Des-Prés takes is name from the Saint Vincent Abbey founded in 558 by the bishop of Paris, named Germain. When he died in the sixth century, the abbey was renamed the Church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés (Sancti Germani de pratis).
