Traditional Thai massage in the heart of Paris

An ancient practice handed down from generation to generation, traditional Thai massage is much more than a simple moment of relaxation: it is an art of touch based on rhythmic pressure and gentle stretching. At Janthra Spa, a Thai massage spa in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, we carry on this tradition with respect and know-how, in a soothing, family-friendly setting – the perfect break between two visits of the Left Bank.

How the session unfolds

Unlike oil massages, Thai massage is performed in loose, comfortable cotton clothing. The therapist works with successive pressure, applied in a steady rhythm along the body. She combines this pressure with passive mobilisations and stretches inspired by yoga, in an approach close to shiatsu. The pace is slow and steady, and the intensity is always adjusted to how you feel. Just let her know if you would like lighter or firmer pressure.

Choose a 30-minute session to focus on one area, or take your time with a full treatment of 1 hour, 1 hour 30 or 2 hours.

The benefits of Thai massage

  • It helps release muscle tension, especially in the back, shoulders and legs.
  • The stretches contribute to a feeling of suppleness and ease of movement.
  • It encourages deep relaxation while leaving you with a sense of renewed energy.
  • It offers a real break after long days of walking around Paris or a long-haul flight.

Who is it for?

Thai massage is particularly popular with athletes, who find it an ideal complement to their training. It is also well suited to people who spend long hours sitting or travelling, who prefer an oil-free massage, or who are looking for an energising rather than enveloping treatment. In our duo room, you can share it with your partner, a friend or a family member.

Before and after your Thai massage

  • Plan to arrive a few minutes early to change and settle in calmly.
  • Avoid a heavy meal in the hour before your session.
  • Let us know about any pain, recent injury, pregnancy or health condition; if in doubt, ask your doctor for advice.
  • After the session, drink some water and allow yourself a quiet moment to make the relaxation last.
