A place, a story.

The district of Saint-Germain-Des-Prés takes is name from the Saint Vincent Abbey founded in 558 by the bishop of Paris, named Germain. When he died in the sixth century, the abbey was renamed the Church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés (Sancti Germani de pratis).

Then, the village of Saint-Germain-des-Prés gradually expanded around the sumptuous church until it reached 600 people in the 12th century, and gradually grew in what gradually became the 6th arrondissement of Paris.

In the 19th century, this district became the landmark and meeting place of great writers such as Racine, Balzac and George Sand, painters like Delacroix or Manet, but also actors and many artists. Thanks to them, merchants and restaurants developed their activity around the Church, then literary cafés such as Les Deux Magots, Le Café de Flore or the Brasserie Lipp prospered the twentieth century.

After Art and Culture, the world of fashion and luxury established in this so famous district. In the 1960s, major luxury brands such as Yves-Saint-Laurent and Sonia Rykiel moved to Saint-Germain-des-Prés, followed today by others such as Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Cartier, Hermès and Ralph Lauren.
